My first Hop winner,Ice and signs!!

I want to thank everyone for the comments on my blog.  Being a new blogger it was nice to see people answer me hahaha.  I think I am addicted to blogging, and did I mention I won!!  not only did I win, but it was a great prize.  Check out what I won!!!!!
Now I used a random number drawer online and #13 of 160 was the winner.  Congratulations to Gun Adrian from Sweden!!  How exciting is that.  I am already looking around for the next give away.  That was so much fun and now I have all these new blogs to watch!

I live in New Brunswick, Canada and we have a river that runs thru our province.  We are coming out of winter and have had exceptionally warm weather this past week.  Up to 80 F.  As a result there has been some bad flooding up river.  Where I live we have been a lot better off.  I took this picture of the old train bridge Friday afternoon.  Thought I would share it.

I was shopping this week and saw a couple cute little signs.  I love signs.  I thought this was a cute one too!!

My name is Janet Wright, and I sometimes say that I am lucky enough to meet my Mr Wright!!  So when I looked at the other window of this store, to my surprise was this display.  I bought the sign on the left!

I have been getting my new creation ready to quilt.  I am pinning it and will share when I get it done.  Have a great weekend everyone!!

Pattern update and Carl

We thought we had a mouse in the house.  Saturday we figured out it was a mole.  As I was watching my 12 year old son play guitar hero, it run across his foot!!  We grabbed a glass and caught it.  His father came along and we left my son, Clay, in his room with said mole.  Before we had finished eating supper, I notice Clay going with a cap full of water and some cheese.  Minutes later he brings him out in a small tote and announces his name is Carl or Carla!!  When you are a red neck I guess you don't have to worry about a babysitter for your child, just catch a rodent and he will be amazed!! We went out dancing for a while, celebrating St Pat's day.  When I got home I looked in on Carl.  Clay had "gone into my scrap bag" and had sewn him a little cave of wool.  When I poked him, I did not see any movement.  The next morning Clay brought him out and declared he was not alive anymore! But his last hours were filled with cheese!  Here is Carl/Carla

As some of you may know, I am working on a pattern for a class that I am going to be teaching.  I thought it was a good opportunity for me to do what I love to do, design.  I sketched it out last week and then made it.  It worked to my amazement.  I guess I thought it would, but I was genuinely excited when it did!!  It is a beginners class, and I think this is a bit hard for that, but if I am teaching it, I should be able to walk them thu it.  I have the write up done for the paper piecing part of the class, and upon my quilt friends approval, I can start working on the pattern.  I have a ton of notes that need to be written up (or at least make sense to others).  I have the paper pulled off and I think it looks finished.  I was tempted to add another border.  Here it is:

So what do you think?  This is the first time I have done this, so any and all feedback will be appreciated.  The border is a bit wonky, but that was my fault (didn't follow my own instructions!).  I will make another as soon as I get the pattern written up.  I always like to test it at least twice.  I am looking forward to reading your reply!!!!!!!

Blog Hop Party and Pattern Designing

Who doesn't love a great giveaway?  Everyone loves a giveaway, and especially a fabric giveaway.  So in honor of my blog being 5 days old, and my first blog hop party, I found some fabric to give away.

On  March 17th, visit HERE to see the list of all the participating blogs.  I have 3 Thimbleberries fat quarters that I will give away.   Starting today and ending March 23rd, you can enter my giveaway.  I am wondering what fabric manufacturer is your favorite.  I personally love Hoffman.  Do you have a preference or do you just buy what looks good to you?  Comment about your favorite between now and March 23rd, and you are entered.  If you do not have a blog id, please add contact information so i can contact you if you win.   This is a very "young" blog so I am not expecting a lot of entries, so please enter :P

As for my quilting this week.  I have been waiting to send out a quilt for hand quilting.  They contacted me this week and they are going to be able to do it next week!!  YYIIPPIIEE!!  So I got the backing pieced today and it is ready to go now.  I am so excited!!

And even more exciting quilting news!!  Last week I was into the local quilting shop.  The Christmas Crab Quiltery has just moved and I was in checking it out.  It is beautiful, and so nicely laid out.  While I was there I mentioned that I am saving up for a new sewing machine.  She suggested that if I wanted, I could teach a class on beginner paper piecing.  I immediately said yes.  I have done a lot of paper piecing, and I have taught it thru my guild many times.  But the more I thought it over, another thought came into my head.  Why not design a pattern??  If I designed a pattern I could sell it thru the store and teach the class to back it up.  So I have been playing with that idea all week.  I have drafted a couple blocks, and I think I have the one I want.  I have re-sized it, re-drafted it and I am now sewing it.  Let's all hope it turns out!!

What have I done???!??

I decided that I would like to try this blogging thing.  I set it all up, did not tell anyone about it.  I have posted a couple things about what I have been doing.  Last night I had a chance to sit down and read a couple blogs that my friends have.  What have I done????
The blogs I have read have been very elegantly wrote.  There are beautiful pictures that have been staged and the formats of the blogs are well thought out and nicely done.  What have I done????
I have given  myself a chance to share.  I have given my friends a chance to check out what I am up to.  I have given myself a way of reading blogs that interest me.  So no more just throwing up pictures thru the mobile blogger app.  If I do not have the time to do it right, why bother at all?
So what have I been doing lately?  I tend to sew only things I enjoy and do well.  The Christmas Crab Quiltery had a project last year where I received 2 strips of fabric per month, enough to make a block.  The fabric was Sande Garvis' Gobble Gobble fabric.  I did 2 sets and the quilt is now finished and on my bed.  I have lots of that fabric left so i decided to make this to place on my night stand.  I finished the top in November and there it has sat, waiting to be finished.  I do not like to quilt or bind.  Will it ever get finished?  So last week I bit the bullet and decided I would quilt it.  I know I did it so wrong.  I did not lover my feed dogs, nor did I take my open toe foot off.  The echo stitching around the flower went well.

(not sure why it will not load right side up, but you get the picture)

If you quilt slow enough you can almost do anything.  Then came the free motion quilting.  Open toe foot on and feed dogs up, I jumped right into it.

Guess what?? I got it labeled and bound on the weekend!!  I am happy it is finished and I am not sad about the quilting on it.  I am not ecstatic, but for knowing I did it wrong, it turned out pretty well.
So here is my Autumn Star!!!  Finished and ready to show off to anyone that will look!!!!

Pillowcase weekend

I have been sewing like crazy lately. I can't seem to get out of my sewing room. So I just had to do something different so I decided it was going to be pillowcase weekend. I had 5 cut out and ready to be made. So I got these two Bali ones, the fabric was give to me as a hostess gift at last falls quilting retreat. I was not sure what to do with the fabric so ta-da!! The camo set are for my 12 year old son, he lives for camo!! The last one is not quite finished, another day, another post!!

Hi, I am Janet Wright and I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am almost 39 years old (close enough).  I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have a son who will be 13 very soon.  I am the manager of a pawn shop, and  I quilt as much as I can.  I am an avid hunter and love the outdoors.  I am creating this blog to share some of the many sewing projects I have on the go.  I tend to motivate others, or suck them into my projects haha.  Stay tuned!!
I decided to post this picture to thank my friend from Red Quilts blog, Shelley, for the wonderful bag she gave me just because I like it!!
